Black walnut has been prized among woodworkers and wood enthusiasts for decades. Its rich dark colors, strength and tight grain pattern puts the wood in a class of its own among American hardwoods. Walnut polishes to an exceptionally smooth finish often with beautiful figuring grain patters. The color ranges from a dark chocolate in the heartwood with darker brown, purple, red and grayish sheens. The thin sap wood is a creamy white.
