The grain of Russian olive can be quite dramatic and beautiful. The color of the heartwood can range from light yellow-brown to a darker golden brown while the sapwood tends to be a much lighter yellow-white. Knots, burls and other irregularities are common, making the grain generally very uneven adding to the dramatic quality of the wood. These features can be enhanced very nicely with the right stain.
